I had a biology teacher, Mico, who previously worked for the CDC. I was from, what might come from fresh vegetables in the shop and washing in a disinfectant bath with friendly people fear. 200 parts per million of chlorine to water. This represents about a certain limit (small) of bleach per gallon of water. This killed most of the bad things that could be on the vegetables. After the bath of bleach, they would be one with rinse water. It was a staff officer for the Center for Disease Control, and they should know if someone knows. The 200 parts per million is the same amount of food is safer than the use of the restaurant, where you time to clean up the food contact surfaces.

If you are really worried and think, not the water, because you are no products available that you can use ...
Clean the kitchen, fruit and vegetable washer or
Nature Clean Fruit and Vegetable Wash
This will help to eliminate bacteria and insecticides.

The chances of the disease, pepper is very thin, it was probably something else. If you are very nervous, but buying a car wash that most supermarkets sell or simply rinse in a sink or bathtub little water helps the sand and dust, or something else that flows from the ground vegetables.
